About

This blog will explore the need for a US National Climate Change Planning and Policy Effort and the means to get the leadership needed for its implementation.

It is becoming clear that we are adversely effecting the global climate by emitting greenhouse gases faster than natural systems can prevent their build up in the atmosphere. The evidence is in and there is no need to rehash it. We will not offer a platform for climate skeptics.

Everything about the climate change problem is complex. It’s causes, it’s effects, it’s implications, and the solutions we need to  implement. Currently we are talking a lot about it and making disjointed efforts to change some of the activities that cause it. Our efforts however frustrated by the lack of a clear direction.  That is inadequate, it will not solve the problem in a timely manner.

All our good intentions get us no where if we don’t know where we need to go and how we will get there. There are many potential solutions but we cannot agree on what to do. We are wasting time and energy are a critical point in our history. We need a flexible, iterative plan and preliminary set of policies that will allow us to unite and work together for the goals we know we need to meet.

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The US congress, particularly the House of Representatives is currently unwilling or incapable of providing leadership in this area. We cannot depend on them for any meaningful effort to plan and develop policy to deal with climate change.

Our only hope for effective leadership lies with the President.  Mr. Obama has shown that he is sympathetic to these needs but the existing political climate makes it difficult for him to act effectively. It is unlikely that industry will make that push. We will have to do it.

We must be the source of the required political pressure. We must make the president aware of this demand for action every day and via every form of media we can reach. We need to encourage as many people as we can to constantly write, email, contact and otherwise pester the President to move forward with our PLAN and POLICY framework.

I hope you will join me in this effort.
